Collins Street, Melbourne

As the centre for commerce, business and enterprise in central Melbourne, Collin’s Street has seen its fair share of development. Sydney Opera House

One of the most recognisable buildings in the world and a poster for Australian culture, art and design is the Sydney Opera House.

Although this pillar for everything Australian sells the image of Australia to tourists and onlookers the world over, the Opera house is actually a Danish construction. Designed by Jorn Urzon in 1955, from a list of 233 other designs, the Opera House won numerous awards as it’s not only a breathtaking construction, but its shape aids and enhances the acoustics of the two halls inside it.

Parliament House, Canberra

Australia has a rich history based on migration and exploration, so in 1978 when Australia was looking for break away from British rule and establish its own Parliament, a building was needed that reflected the history of the nation and the future they were aspiring for.

An Architect by that name of Romaldo Giurgola was commissioned to put a building together which took in Aboriginal, English, Dutch, German, Polish, Greek, Italian and Asian influences and create the hub for Australian politics.

Completed 10 years later and opened, ironically, by Queen Elizabeth II, Parliament House is considered to be a masterpiece and has served the various cultures it pays homage to, very well.
